Imagine escaping the chaos of your everyday and exploring a world where the peace & quiet of nature takes center stage? An [almost] off-grid experience, we have to confess, there IS electricity & hot water, but NO wifi or TV. Shocking, we know!
Our little corner of the Peak District, offers stunning landscapes filled with hills to explore and historic villages to visit, perfect for anyone looking for a peaceful few days away. Come & stay at Thehuteyam, we promise you a warm welcome & time for each other...

Our shepherd's hut provides a quiet escape, letting you enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, with a traditional & relaxed living space for your weekend comfort.
Let us show you why a shepherd's hut mini break is what you need to disconnect from technology, and enjoy a quiet getaway together, free from any "life" distractions.
Embracing the Off-Grid Experience
There is no Wi-Fi in our little green hut which is completely intentional (there is a good 5G phone signal though). We encourage you to disconnect with technology and reconnect with each other & your surroundings, even for a short period.
Waking up in a shepherd's hut is magical. There is no alarm (unless you want to set it early to see the sunrise). Sit in bed with your first cup of tea/coffee of the day, or sit on the steps listen to the world as it wakes up, the birds chirping and leaves above rustling in the wind.
Even a short stay can help you find a sense of peace that a busy buzzy city environment just cannot.
The history behind Shepherd's Huts
Shepherd's huts bring a sense of comfort and nostalgia that many of our guests find appealing. We took a long time & a lot of research to find the best hutmakers, our little green hut is built by Plankbridge Dorset, from an original blueprint.
They were built for shepherds watching over their sheep, particularly at lambing time, when they were used as a safe & warm haven, a wood burning stove & a simple bed was all that was needed to keep the shepherd & his flock safe.
Nowadays, shepherd's huts have been transformed into inviting accommodations where they feature a full sized comfy bed and a cozy seating area—everything you need for a mini break escape.

Exploring the Peak District
The Peak District is well known for it's beautiful landscape so once you are comfortably settled, step outside and experience everything our national park has to offer. We provide plenty of walking books & an OS map.
Or just ask where we like to go. There are so many great routes right from the door, you won't need to use your car atall.
Top Walking/Hiking Trails
If you have come away to escape from people(!), you are in the right place...
Of course, the more famous places such as Ladybower Reservoir which has a family-friendly path or the more demanding challenge of Kinder Scout, the tallest point in the Peak District to enjoy sweeping views might be places to pop on your list & tick off, but we much prefer heading in a quieter direction, closer to home & exploring Eyam moor, Bretton clough & the brook at Stoke Ford.
If the weather is kind to you, maybe plan ahead & order a picnic box from our friends at Colemans Deli or pop in to Chatsworth Farm shop & pick up one of their delicious pies & a bakewell tart.
Sitting quietly, next to the river or on top of a hill enjoying the view together, really is priceless & one for the memory bank.

Unique Villages to Discover including our own, Eyam, the Plague Village
If history is your thing, you have come to the right place! There is an award winning independent museum here in Eyam telling the story of the Plague. Eyam is a busy village with lots going on throughout the year - half marathon, well dressings, carnival, village show, bonfire, christmas market & santas groto.
Other charming villages dot the landscape, offering their own unique experiences and local flavor:
In Bakewell, try the famous Bakewell pudding or tart —a delicious almond-filled pastry, but which is your favourite?
Visit Castleton to explore the enchanting Blue John Cavern, where you can view the stunning semi-precious stone unique to the area.
Chatsworth House (of Pride & Prejudice & Peaky Blinders fame) is one to pop on your list too.
Delighting Your Taste Buds
A trip to the Peak District is incomplete without indulging in its culinary delights. We are spoilt for choice with the variety of eateries that serve delicious local dishes.
Visit our blog here to find out where our favourite local places to eat & drink are.
After a day outdoors exploring, stop by a local pub to refuel. Every taste & budget is catered for:
Carribean kitchen to Michelin Star restaurants
Good pub grub to fine dining
Award winning fish & chips & the most delicious Indian takeaways delivered back to our shepherd's hut door.

Enjoying Downtime - relax & unwind
While exploring the area is enticing, make sure to carve out time for relaxation & to unwind. After a day of adventure, return to the hut and switch off. Grab a good book, pop the radio on or just take a moment to breathe and appreciate your surroundings.
There is a fire pit outside the hut, under the trees, the perfect spot to cosy up together & watch the nights sky. In 2024, the Northern Lights made a show 3 times, maybe you will be lucky & see a shooting star.....
There are marshmallows & forks for you to use & toast over the flames while listening to the peace & quiet & sounds of nature.
Memory making & creating moments to take home with you is our super power!
In our fast-paced world, moments of stillness are rare, but when they do happen, they are incredibly valuable. Disconnecting with your technology & busy lives and finding joy in simple pleasures together, reconnecting really is priceless.
Gently connecting with Nature
Staying in a shepherd's hut, where there are less day-to-day distractions, naturally means that you embrace a deeper connection with nature. From the hut, you might spot the owl in the tree above, a little robin hopping around the picnic bench looking for crumbs or the newborn lambs in the adjacent field..
Stargazing can be relaxing & awe-inspiring all in one breath. Light pollution is low in the Peak District, infact, it is a registered dark sky area. Clear nights here really do provide spectacular views of the stars. There is a set of binoculars in the hut for you to use & spot shooting stars.

In summary...
Taking a break in our shepherd's hut in the Peak District is a refreshing way to escape your every day. It invites you to connect with nature, relax, and embrace the art of disconnecting. Explore the miles of hiking trails, pretty villages, and embrace the opportunity to unwind..... helping you make memories is what we do best.
So, pack your bags, turn off your devices, and prepare for an unforgettable off-grid retreat. The Peak District is waiting for you, ready to provide peace & quiet, natural beauty, and the ultimate escape from life’s hectic pace.
